ROUGHNECKS, COPPERHEADS SEAL HOME FIELD ADVANTAGEWith a win in the first game of each team's double header on Saturday, the Wichita Falls Roughnecks and Coppell Copperheads clinched home field advantage for the TCL playoffs. The battle for the second seed in the Hornsby division will come down to the wire as McKinney and Denton's playoff fate is on the line. The Marshals can seal the playoff berth with a win against Weatherford, but a McKinney loss and an Outlaw win would send Denton into post-season play. WICHITA FALLS 13, MCKINNEY 2 (GAME 1) MCKINNEY 8, WICHITA FALLS 4 (GAME 2) The Wichita Falls Roughnecks belted out 17 hits while scoring 13 runs in a 13-2 victory over the McKinney Marshals in the first game of a doubleheader at Hoskins Field. The Roughnecks (24-16) clinched the top-seed in the Rogers Hornsby Division with the win, while McKinney (21-17) continues to battle for a playoff berth. The Roughnecks were led by shortstop Chris Hall who went 4-for-5 with three RBI and R.J. Harris who was 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored. Starter Chase Anderson went five innings, striking out six while allowing just two hits in raising his record to 4-0. Jonathan Runnels fell to 2-2 in taking the loss as he allowed seven runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. The game was the make up of last Wednesday's scheduled contest, forcing the Roughnecks to play as the visiting team. The McKinney Marshals scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to break a four-all tie and beat the Wichita Falls Roughnecks 8-4 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday night at Hoskins Field. The Roughnecks, after clinching the top-seed in the Rogers Hornsby Division of the Texas Collegiate League with a 13-2 win in the first game, fell to 24-17 on the season with the loss. McKinney, battling for a playoff berth, moves to 22-17. The Marshals jumped out to a 4-1 lead, thanks in pareto Trae Williams' first home run of the season in the sixth inning. But the Roughnecks came back with three in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game at 4 when pinch runner R.J. Harris scored on Chris Wright's wild pitch. Then the Marshals chalked up four in the top of the seventh as McKinney made reliever Jason Blilie pay a throwing error. Blilie got his first loss of the year, going to 0-1. Wright got the win in relief, striking out four in 1 1/3 innings. McKinney starter Mike Lee went five innings, striking out six Roughnecks and allowing only one earned run and four hits. COPPELL 6, MINERAL WELLS 1 (GAME 1) MINERAL WELLS 13, COPPELL 10 (GAME 2) Coppell's Jonas Fester was perfect at the plate as his 4-for-4 three RBI performance pushed the Copperheads into clinching home field advantage in the playoffs with a 6-1 win over the Mineral Wells Steam. Mineral Wells was bitten 6-1 by the Copperheads in game one but struck back with a heavy dose of offense in the nightcap for a 13-10 comeback win Saturday night at Cowboy Field. Rett Varner was tabbed as the winning pitcher after going 2 2/3 scoreless innings and only giving up two hits Mineral Wells started Alex VanOeveren as he pitched a complete game, going six innings and striking out seven batters while walking one. Dallas Tarleton scored the only run of the game for the Steam after a Brice Cutspec RBI single to right field in the top of the second. In game two of the evening, the wind started picking up and carried multiple shots over the left field wall. Seven home runs were hit in the nightcap in an offensive slugfest between the two teams. Coppell's Brandon Belt, Jonas Fester, Garrett Clyde and Andrew Stover and Mineral Wells' Bo Coffman, Kevin Bedford and Josh Vander Hey all went yard in the game. Mineral Wells scored four runs in the first inning to get off to a quick start but found themselves down 10-8 heading into the seventh and final inning. However, the Steam posted five runs in their last chance, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Brice Cutspec and a bases-loaded three-RBI double from Andrew Guerra to left. WEATHERFORD 4, DENTON 1 The Denton Outlaws stumbled back in the standings as they were handed a 4-1 loss by the Weatherford Wranglers. The Outlaws are now a half a game behind the McKinney Marshals going into the last day of the regular season. Weatherford's Justin Wells silenced the Outlaw bats pitching six innings giving up one run, five hits and striking out seven. Matt Whatley drove in two runs for Weatherford finishing the night 2-for-4 with two RBI. The Outlaws 6-9 hitters combined to go 1-for-12 and the team left seven runners on base.
