BAYUK NAMED BIG 12 CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Kansas State ’s Chase Bayuk (McKinney Marshals) has been named the Big 12 Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week after his performance on the mound in last weekend’s 7-1 win at No. 15 Oklahoma State, the league office has announced. Bayuk joins Oklahoma pitcher Stephen Porlier in garnering the weekly pitching award.

In Sunday’s 7-1 K-State win, Bayuk had his longest outing of his career in the game, going 8.1 strong innings and scattering seven hits and one run with three strikeouts. Three of the seven hits he surrendered were in the fifth inning and from that point on, the junior retired 12 in a row before leaving the game in the ninth inning with one out.

The left-hander held the league’s top hitting team to a .205 average (7-for-34) in the game, including a .115 mark (3-for-26) in the first-through-fourth and sixth-through-eighth innings. Oklahoma State had entered the weekend with a .352 team batting average.

The honor is the first for Bayuk in his K-State career and the first for any Wildcat, position player or pitcher, this season.   Bayuk will suit up for the 2006 TCL Champion McKinney Marshals for the 2007 season and help contribute to their quest for another title.
