HEATH TAYLOR NAMED BIG 12 PITCHER OF THE WEEK

The Big 12 Conference named Heath Taylor from the University of Oklahoma Pitcher of the Week for the week of Feb 27, 2007.  The Bowie, TX native has signed a contract to play with the Texas Collegiate League’s Denton Outlaws for the 2007 season.

Taylor (LHP, 5’11”, 224lbs.) made two appearances against No.20 UC Riverside helping the Sooners to victory in both with 6 and 1/3 innings pitched. His relief talent struck out 11 batters and limited the opposition to zero runs on one hit and three walks. He set a career high with seven strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings and struck out four batters to record his first victory as a Sooner. He surrendered one hit and did not allow a run for his second straight appearance.

The OU junior graduated from Bowie High School where he was a two-time All-American and led his team to a district title in 2003.  After high school, he pitched at Vernon Junior College (TX) for two seasons and was a Texas Junior College all-star as a freshman.

Taylor will join the Derek Matlock, two-time TCL Coach of the Year, and the Outlaws for the 2007 season.  The Outlaws have reached the TCL Championship Series two years in a row with a championship victory in 2005 and a loss to McKinney in 2006.
