THE DENTON OUTLAWS ARE ON THE MOVE


The Denton Collegiate Baseball Club, known as the Denton Outlaws, is continuing its preparation for the 2007 Texas Collegiate League season by announcing it is moving locations for the upcoming season.

The Outlaws, who are owned by an investor group headed by Dallas businessman and investor Jim Leslie and former Major League Baseball player Todd Van Poppel, are preparing for the third season of the fourth year wooden bat league this summer. The team played their home games in 2006 at Denton Ryan High School but will move to Lake Dallas High School for the 2007 season.

The Outlaws and Lake Dallas High School Head Baseball Coach, Derek Matlock, will be leading the Outlaws to another successful season during 2007. This will be Matlock’s third season with the Outlaws. Matlock was honored as the Texas Collegiate League Coach of the Year for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. He was formerly a Volunteer Assistant Coach for Texas Christian University after a successful high school coaching career in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Matlock guided Flower Mound High School to three consecutive playoff appearances from 2002-04 after starting that program in 1999. Prior to that, he was the head baseball coach at Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, earning area Coach of the Year honors from both The Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram in 1998. Coaching staff will also include Ryan McCurley who has been a part of the coaching staff since 2005 and James Dillard who joined the team in 2006.

Denton’s 2007 roster is headed by righthander Mike Ojala of Rice, first baseman Eric Oliver from Orange Coast College and righty Zack Boles of Baylor .The Outlaws’ team also will include returning players, Thomas Field (Texas State), Brice Ary (Baylor), Kyle Watson (SFA), and Kevin Croft (SFA).

Candiss Caudle, former employee for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club and Fort Worth Cats Baseball Club, serves as the Outlaws General Manager. The team will play 24 home games at the Lake Dallas High School Field which is located at 3016 Parkridge Drive, Corinth, Texas 76210.
