Bombers Get First Win of the SeasonBryan-College Station, TX (June 7, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers picked up their first win of the season on Sunday against the North Texas Copperheads, riding the strong pitching of Ryan Eastman and Levi Saenz to a 6-3 victory. Eastman worked seven impressive innings, giving up only one earned run. Saenz closed out the game, working a flawless ninth inning and picking up the teams’ first save of the season. The Bombers played well on Firday against the McKinney Marshals, but came up just short, losing 7-9. In the first official game of the season the team got roughed up early, giving up seven runs in the first inning. The Bombers fought back, scoring seven of their own runs while reliever Matt Passauer worked five and one third innings of relief, giving up only two runs and striking out six. Though the Bombers were unable to overcome the early deficit, they showed a great deal of focus and confidence, refusing to quit. On Saturday night the Bombers lost again to the Marshals, 3-4. Alec Mills pitched brilliantly, allowing two hits in his five innings of work, but one of the two was a grand slam by Patrick Palmeiro that gave the Marshals all the offense they would need as the Bombers were only able to muster three runs of their own. The bats came alive this weekend with big performances by Isaac Nuti, Tanner Toal, Josh McElroy and Morgan Mickan. Nuti leads all Bombers with a .429 batting average and has already stolen two bases on the young season, and with Toal hitting .375, and McElroy and Mickan each hitting .333, the offense looks to be no problem for the team going forward. The bullpen was also outstanding on the weekend, giving up only two runs over 12.1 innings of work. With solid pitching and the promising early offense, the Bombers look to be a dangerous bunch this season. The Bombers will be back in action tomorrow and Wednesday against the expansion Aces in Alexandria, LA. The team’s next home game will be on June 10, as the Bombers will take on the McKinney Marshals. Be sure to come out to Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark on the tenth for Thirsty Thursday presented by Western Beverages for $1 beer and $0.50 soft drinks. |
