SATURDAY FULL OF SPLIT DOUBLE HEADERS

Baseball great Ernie Banks would be proud as double headers were played league wide in the TCL on Saturday.  All twinbills were split as every team got a win and a loss on a beautiful day for baseball.

DUNCANVILLE 6, COLLEYVILLE 4 (GAME 1)
COLLEYVILLE 7, DUNCANVILLE 3 (GAME 2)

Duncanville Deputies survived a late rally by the Colleyville LoneStars, taking the first game of a doubleheader in eight innings, 6-4, Saturday evening.  Dominic Tognietti drove in Morgan Kielty with the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning and Taylor Krick came in with an insurance run on a throwing error.  Colleyville had tied the game in the seventh and final scheduled inning as Charlie Blackmon singled to score Tyler Henley, who had doubled and moved to third on a sacrifice from Brandon Moss. Dustin Rasco earned the win, his first decision of the year, and Matt Dean took the loss, dropping to 0-2 for the summer.  In the second game, the Colleyville LoneStars scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win beat the Duncanville Deputies, 7-3, and earn a split in Saturday's doubleheader. Trailing 3-2 coming into the bottom of the sixth, the LoneStars sent 10 batters to the plate, scoring six times on four singles, three walks and a hit batter. Austin Knight drove in the go-ahead runs, bringing in Tyler Weber and Zak Presley on a two-out single. Duncanville had taken the lead in the top of the inning on a two-run home run by Taylor Krick, his first four-bagger of the summer. Charlie Blackmon, benefitted from the big LoneStar inning earning the win for his first decision of the year, despite giving up Krick's home run. Kyle Brown worked a scoreless final inning to preserve the win as the game was shortened to seven innings due to the doubleheader. Steven Singer (1-1) took the loss as he gave up four runs in just two innings of work.

MINERAL WELLS 5, WEATHERFORD 2 (GAME 1)
WEATHERFORD 4, MINERAL WELLS 3 (GAME 2)

Mineral Wells beat Weatherford 5-2 in the first game as Wade Mackey got the victory and Andy Womack the save. Mackey improved his record to 2-2 after going six innings, giving up two runs and striking out four. Womack pitched the seventh for his third save this season, allowing one hit but striking out two. The Steam fell behind 2-0 in the second inning but got a run back in the top of the third after an RBI single from Bo Coffman scored Adam Witek. Mineral Wells then posted four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.  Witek was two-for-four in the game with two runs scored. Catcher Dallas Tarleton was also two-for-four, scoring one run and knocking in two.  In the nightcap, Weatherford came out on top 4-3 in a game that went down to the wire. Ryan Goins drew the start for the Steam and pitched six innings. Goins gave up two runs in each of the first two innings before settling down and shutting out Weatherford the rest of the night. Goins walked four Wranglers and struck out six.  Mineral Wells scored one run in the top half of the second inning and wouldn’t get on the board again until the final inning of the game. In that seventh inning, the Steam rallied to get two runs across and was threatening to tie when a double steal attempt failed and Zach Gardner was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the game.

BRAZOS VALLEY 3, COPPELL 1 (GAME 1)
COPPELL 10, BRAZOS VALLEY 0 (GAME 2)

Scooter Hicks (4-2) went the distance for the Bombers in the first game, giving up six hits and one run over seven innings. He struck out five and walked only two in earning his team-leading fourth win of the season.  Game one opened with the Copperheads taking a lead in the top of the first, before Hicks settled down and took control of the game. The Bombers offense retaliated in the third, when Keith Stein and Jess Buenger singled, then moved up a base on a wild pitch. Joseph Towns walked to load the bases, then Tim Palincsar earned his first RBI in a Bombers uniform with a two-out walk.  Brazos Valley took the lead in the fourth with textbook station-to-station hitting. Chris Wallace led off with a walk, then Ryan Weber singled. Daman Aaron laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move the runners up a base. Stein then hit behind the runners, bouncing a ball to second that allowed Wallace to score the go-ahead run.  After a team-record seven-game win streak that included a move into first place and the TCL’s first no-hitter, it’s quite possible that a letdown like the nightcap could have been expected.  The Copperheads, who entered game two with an 0-5 record against the B’s this season, again grabbed an early lead, and this time it held up.  Bombers starter Will Currier (2-3) surrendered a two-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the third, staking Coppell to a 3-0 lead.  He settled down, though, and worked his way into the fifth inning before handing the ball over to Adam Albright. Albright gave up a hit and walk, striking out three, in two scoreless innings of relief. The Bombers were unable to generate any offense, and through six innings the Copperheads held a 3-0 lead.  The game got further away from the B’s in the seventh. Brice Ary came in and struggled, and the anxious Coppell bats took advantage. The first three batters reached base, setting the stage for a Preston Clark grand slam. The Copperheads continued hitting, adding three more runs in the frame to push the lead to 10-0.  Buenger registered two more hits for a tired Bombers offense, giving him a 4-for-5 doubleheader with a pair of walks. In fact, Buenger has posted a multiple-hit game in each of his three starts since first donning a Bombers jersey.

WICHITA FALLS 10, MCKINNEY 3 (GAME 1)
MCKINNEY 5, WICHITA FALLS 0 (GAME 2)

Wichita Falls evened up the standings with a 10-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader at McKinney tonight.  Russell Young was very solid earning a complete game victory to extend his record to 3-1.  Drew Zizinia earned the loss for the Marshals.  Roughnecks' bats were hot as Danny Slinkman went a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and Will Breslin raked in three RBI going 3-for-4.  The victory moved the Roughnecks into a tie for the Hornsby Division lead with a 14-8 record.  There was another great pitching performance in the nightcap of the double header but this time it was a McKinney pitcher.  Stephen Richards pitched a complete game, one hit shutout  and struck out eight for his first victory of the season.  Marshals scored 5 runs in the fifth inning provided by Cory Wine and Tyler Hohman RBI, which was enough for Richards to seal the victory.
