Victoria Continues Roll, River Monsters Stay Hot, Rougarou Explode, Shadowcats Edge Bombers
The race for playoff positioning continued to heat up across the Texas Collegiate League on Wednesday night as the Victoria Generals extended their lead atop the standings, the San Antonio River Monsters stayed red-hot, the Baton Rouge Rougarou erupted for 16 runs, and the Sherman Shadowcats pulled out a one-run victory at home.
Generals Complete Sweep of Gumbeaux Gators
The Victoria Generals improved to 14-6 with a 7-3 victory over the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators.
Despite collecting just six hits, Victoria capitalized on 14 walks and timely hitting to secure the win. Jace Martinez led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and three stolen bases. Austin Marlin added two RBIs while Graham Charboneau contributed a pair of hits.
Lake Charles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but the Generals responded with runs in five different innings and never trailed after the fourth.
Jaykub Reyes earned the win after allowing just two runs on six hits over six strong innings. The bullpen combination of Brock Thorndell and Parker McGrael closed the door, limiting the Gators to one run over the final three frames.
Kasen Bellard paced Lake Charles with two hits and two stolen bases, while Ayden Sunday collected two hits and an RBI in the loss.
River Monsters Pound Cane Cutters Again
For the second straight night, the San Antonio River Monsters' offense was unstoppable as they defeated the Acadiana Cane Cutters 13-5.
San Antonio wasted no time, scoring six runs in the opening inning and never looking back. The River Monsters launched two home runs and piled up 12 hits while drawing seven walks.
Carlos Chavez delivered the biggest blow with a three-run homer and finished with three RBIs. David DeHoyos also homered and drove in three runs, while Eric Bacon continued his outstanding series with three hits and two RBIs. Hunter Ham chipped in two hits and two RBIs.
After scoring nine runs on Tuesday, the River Monsters followed it up with 13 more runs on Wednesday, totaling 22 runs over the two-game stretch.
Anthony Graziano was dominant in relief, tossing 4.1 scoreless innings to stabilize the game after an early wild first inning by starter Clayton Beckel.
Acadiana was led by Christian Hallmark's two-hit performance, while Tanner Hornback, Aidan Eshelman, and Isaiah Castaneda each drove in runs.
Rougarou Break Out in 16-Run Rout
The Baton Rouge Rougarou snapped their recent struggles in emphatic fashion, rolling past the Abilene Flying Bison 16-3.
The Rougarou scored in eight of nine innings and built a commanding 12-0 lead before Abilene finally broke through in the sixth.
Josh Lim starred offensively, going 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs, three runs scored, and two walks. Ty Simonelli added a two-run triple, while Trip Dobson and Brock Louque each drove in two runs.
Baton Rouge drew 11 walks and took advantage of defensive miscues to put constant pressure on the Flying Bison pitching staff.
Jack Jordan earned the victory with five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out three.
Abilene managed nine hits, including a home run from Trey Smith, but could not overcome the early deficit.
Shadowcats Hold Off Ninth-Inning Rally
The Sherman Shadowcats improved their position in the standings with a hard-fought 6-5 win over the Brazos Valley Bombers.
Sherman scored six runs on only five hits but made the most of 11 walks issued by Bombers pitching.
Charlie Boyles was the difference-maker, collecting two hits and four RBIs. Zach Fjelstad added two RBIs and helped fuel the offense from the leadoff spot.
Nakni Anna earned the win with five innings of two-hit baseball, striking out seven while allowing only two unearned runs. Alex Morrison closed out the final four innings, striking out six.
Brazos Valley mounted a late rally with three runs in the ninth and received two RBIs from Gage Kooyers and two more from Jake Barron, but the comeback fell just short as Sherman secured the victory.
