Texas Collegiate League Game Day Recap – July 2, 2026
It was a night of dominant pitching performances, explosive innings, and one offensive showcase as four games highlighted the Texas Collegiate League schedule on Thursday. The Brazos Valley Bombers erased an early deficit with a game-changing sixth inning, the Acadiana Cane Cutters broke things open late against Victoria, the Abilene Flying Bison blanked Sherman behind a combined two-hit shutout, and the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators delivered the league's most dominant performance of the night with a 16-0 rout of San Antonio.
Bombers explode for nine-run sixth to defeat Rougarou, 10-3
The Brazos Valley Bombers turned a tight game into a runaway with a stunning nine-run sixth inning, rallying past the Baton Rouge Rougarou for a 10-3 victory.
Baton Rouge held a 3-0 lead through five innings behind starter Thomas Collins, who struck out nine over 5.2 strong innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Brazos Valley capitalized immediately, sending 14 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs to completely flip the game.
Makoy Stone led the Bombers offense, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Joey Duran added two RBIs. Drew Britton, Tobias Motley, Jacob Bohacek, and Easton Ballard also drove in runs during the decisive rally.
After starter Chase Batten allowed three runs over four innings, Matt Taylor was outstanding in relief, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five to earn the victory.
Cane Cutters pull away late, top Victoria 11-4
The Acadiana Cane Cutters used patience at the plate and timely hitting to pull away for an 11-4 victory over the Victoria Generals.
Victoria grabbed a brief 3-1 advantage in the fifth thanks to Asa Sampson's three-run homer, but Acadiana answered immediately with a five-run sixth inning before adding five more runs over the final two frames.
The Cane Cutters drew an incredible 14 walks while collecting eight hits.
Braylin Harris sparked the offense by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases, while Ethan Espricueta added two hits and two RBIs. Will Thetford drove in two runs despite not recording a hit, reaching base three times via walks.
Jackson Hawsey stabilized the game out of the bullpen, allowing just one unearned run over 2.2 innings before J.B. Landrum struck out four over the final two scoreless frames to close out the win.
Flying Bison blank Shadowcats behind dominant pitching
The Abilene Flying Bison combined for a two-hit shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Sherman Shadowcats.
Four Abilene pitchers limited Sherman to just two singles while striking out 11 batters. Jacob Gilbert earned the win with four scoreless innings of relief, striking out five without allowing a hit. Nolan Foster set the tone with three scoreless innings before Stetson Callaway and Kasey Swan finished off the shutout.
Offensively, Trey Smith delivered the big swing of the night, collecting three hits—including a double—and driving in all three Abilene runs with a fifth-inning bases-clearing double.
Connor Ficara, Ryan Lewis, and Tom Chessell each scored during the decisive inning as the Flying Bison improved to 11-12 overall.
Gumbeaux Gators overwhelm River Monsters, 16-0
The Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators put together their most complete performance of the season, rolling to a 16-0 shutout over the San Antonio River Monsters.
Lake Charles wasted no time, exploding for eight runs before recording an out in the first inning and never looked back. The Gators finished with 14 hits and drew nine walks while their pitching staff surrendered just one hit all evening.
Griffin Hebert paced the offense with a monster performance, going 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Andrew Ramos added three hits and scored three runs, while Ayden Sunday also collected two hits and crossed the plate twice. Kash Martin chipped in two hits and an RBI as every spot in the lineup contributed.
Cole Flanagan was dominant on the mound, throwing five hitless innings with six strikeouts to improve to 3-0. Davis Duhon, Chris Melvin, and Brandon Levy combined to finish off the one-hit shutout as the River Monsters never advanced much offensively.
The victory gives Lake Charles an emphatic bounce-back performance and one of the league's most lopsided wins of the 2026 season.
