Cane Cutters Walk It Off Against Rougarou
The Acadiana Cane Cutters capped off a dramatic night with a two-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge the Baton Rouge Rougarou, 3-2.
Baton Rouge grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third when Ty Simonelli delivered an RBI single, but Acadiana chipped away with a run in the fifth before putting together the decisive rally in the eighth. Josh Hernandez tied the game with an RBI single before Ethan Espricueta lined a go-ahead RBI double to give the Cane Cutters their third win of the season.
Braylin Harris paced Acadiana's offense with a perfect 4-for-4 performance, while Hernandez and Espricueta each drove in key runs. Jayce LaCava also scored twice.
The Cane Cutters' bullpen was outstanding. Ryan Self allowed just two runs over five innings before Jackson Hawsey dominated in relief, striking out five over two scoreless frames. Kannon Dempsey and Jack Halbrook closed the door, with Halbrook earning the save.
Thomas Collins pitched well for Baton Rouge, allowing just one run over five innings, while Simonelli finished with the Rougarou's lone RBI.
Victoria Explodes for Seven-Run Sixth to Defeat River Monsters
The Victoria Generals erased an early deficit with a massive seven-run sixth inning, defeating the San Antonio River Monsters 13-7.
San Antonio jumped out quickly with three runs in the opening inning and built a 7-4 lead after five thanks to home runs from Javier Diaz and Bruno Robles. Diaz finished with three RBIs while Robles added two.
Victoria's offense erupted in the sixth, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs to seize control for good.
The Generals pounded out 16 hits, led by Asa Sampson, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two stolen bases. Brock DeYoung collected three hits, Josh Arquette added three hits and an RBI, while Roman Cariaga drove home three runs with a triple.
After allowing seven runs through four innings, Victoria's bullpen completely shut down the River Monsters. Nate Bergeron and Trent Buckley combined for five scoreless innings, with Buckley striking out six over the final three frames.
Flying Bison Hold Off Gumbeaux Gators
The Abilene Flying Bison evened their record with a hard-fought 5-4 victory over the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators.
Lake Charles struck first behind Jeremiah Torres' two-run homer in the second inning, but Abilene answered throughout the middle innings to pull ahead.
Christian Gutierrez sparked the Flying Bison offense with a double, triple and RBI, while Rodrigo Bravo drove in two runs. Tristan Russell also added an RBI in the balanced attack.
The pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts. Logan Simmons fanned eight over the first three innings before Stetson Callaway added four more. Deven Kirtley picked up the win in relief, and Kasey Swan recorded his second save of the season.
Torres accounted for half of Lake Charles' scoring with his two-run blast, while Griffin Hebert finished with two hits in the loss.
Bombers Outlast Shadowcats in 32-Run Slugfest
In one of the wildest games of the season, the Brazos Valley Bombers survived an offensive marathon to defeat the Sherman Shadowcats 17-15.
Sherman raced out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and still led entering the eighth before Brazos Valley exploded for seven runs to take control. The Bombers then added four insurance runs in the ninth before holding off one final Shadowcats rally.
Brazos Valley drew an incredible 16 walks and capitalized on every opportunity. Tanner Cooper drove in three runs, Tiger Donnato hit a three-run homer, Blaine Lucas knocked in two, Tyson Brooks added two RBIs, while Reece Lunsford and Tobias Motley also contributed multi-RBI performances.
Owen Redd reached base five times, scored three runs and stole two bases, while Jax Marshall collected two hits and three walks.
Sherman's offense was equally impressive. Ryan Sessions blasted a home run and drove in five runs, Ellington Jefferson homered and collected three RBIs, Zach Fjelstad drove in three, and Tyler Sessions scored three runs while adding two hits.
The two clubs combined for:
- 32 runs
- 24 hits
- 29 walks
- 463 total pitches
Cameron Carlile earned the victory after working the ninth inning, while Edwin Nunez was charged with the loss.
