Rougarou Roll, Gumbeaux Gators Break Out the Bats, River Monsters Stay Hot, Bombers Complete Sweep
Another exciting night of Texas Collegiate League action featured offensive fireworks across the league as the Baton Rouge Rougarou cruised past Abilene, the Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators erupted for 15 runs, the San Antonio River Monsters continued their winning streak, and the Brazos Valley Bombers completed a two-game sweep of Sherman.
Baton Rouge Rougarou 9, Abilene Flying Bison 1
The Baton Rouge Rougarou jumped on the Abilene Flying Bison early and never looked back, earning a convincing 9-1 victory.
After Abilene scored in the top of the first on an RBI double by Kanon Sundgren, the Rougarou answered immediately with four runs in the bottom half of the inning before adding insurance runs in the second, third, fourth and eighth innings.
Jacob Keys paced the Baton Rouge offense with three hits, including a double, and drove in four runs. Trip Dobson continued his hot stretch by collecting two hits and an RBI, while Jack Marcantel added a hit, an RBI and reached base four times.
The Rougarou pitching staff was equally impressive. Starter Jack Jordan and the bullpen combined to limit Abilene to just five hits while striking out 13 batters. The Flying Bison were led offensively by Sundgren's two-hit performance.
Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators 15, Acadiana Cane Cutters 6
The Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators put together one of their most explosive offensive performances of the season, defeating the Acadiana Cane Cutters 15-6.
Lake Charles scored in six different innings, highlighted by a five-run fifth inning that broke the game open. Despite recording only eight hits, the Gumbeaux Gators capitalized on outstanding plate discipline, drawing an incredible 16 walks while forcing Acadiana pitchers to throw 200 pitches.
Bankston Lembcke led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Griffin Hebert also drove in two runs. Andrew Ramos finished with two hits, including a triple, and scored twice, while Jeremiah Torres crossed the plate three times after reaching base four times.
Acadiana was led by Aidan Eshelman, who collected two hits and an RBI, while Braylin Harris drove in two runs. The Cane Cutters drew eight walks but couldn't overcome the Gators' relentless offense.
San Antonio River Monsters 10, Victoria Generals 7
The San Antonio River Monsters continued their impressive run, defeating the Victoria Generals 10-7 behind timely hitting and patient at-bats.
San Antonio scored four runs in the fourth inning to seize momentum before adding five more over the fifth and sixth innings. The River Monsters scored 10 runs despite recording just six hits, thanks to drawing 10 walks and taking advantage of Victoria miscues.
David DeHoyos delivered the biggest hit of the night with a three-RBI double, while Bruno Robles scored three runs, drove in another and reached base four times. Eric Bacon added two hits and scored twice, and Hunter Ham contributed an RBI double.
Victoria stayed within striking distance thanks to a four-RBI performance from Roman Cariaga, who homered and doubled, but San Antonio reliever MJ Espinoza shut the door by allowing just one run over the final 4.2 innings to earn the victory.
Brazos Valley Bombers 10, Sherman Shadowcats 3
The Brazos Valley Bombers completed a two-game sweep of the Sherman Shadowcats with a 10-3 victory, using timely hitting and another disciplined offensive approach.
Sherman grabbed an early 2-0 lead behind a two-run home run from Tyler Sessions, but Brazos Valley responded with three runs in the second inning and never surrendered the lead.
The Bombers were opportunistic throughout the night, drawing 11 walks while making the most of seven hits. Matt Scott powered the offense with a home run, a triple and three RBIs, while Tiger Donnato finished 3-for-4 with a home run, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Kason Atkins and Drew Britton each drove in two runs as Brazos Valley steadily pulled away.
Sherman's offense was led by John Moya, who collected three of the Shadowcats' six hits, while Tyler Sessions accounted for two RBIs with his first-inning blast.
The Bombers' pitching staff combined to hold Sherman to just one run over the final eight innings, completing another strong all-around performance.
