July 4, 2026 – Texas Collegiate League

There was plenty of fireworks on and off the field across the Texas Collegiate League on Independence Day as four games featured late-inning drama, comeback victories, and timely offensive performances.

River Monsters 3, Flying Bison 2

The San Antonio River Monsters erased a two-run deficit with a decisive seventh inning to edge the Abilene Flying Bison 3-2.

Abilene grabbed the early advantage in the fourth when Tristan Russell doubled home Kanon Sundgren for the game's first run before an error allowed another run to score, giving the Flying Bison a 2-0 lead.

San Antonio was held to just one hit through the first six innings before breaking through in the seventh. Bryce Wells started the rally and Eric Bacon delivered an RBI double to cut the deficit in half. Bruno Robles followed with an RBI single to tie the game, and Javier Diaz capped the comeback with a go-ahead RBI double.

Clayton Beckel was outstanding in relief, earning the victory after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out seven. Cody Demont suffered the tough-luck loss despite allowing only four hits over 6.1 innings.

Victoria Generals 9, Baton Rouge Rougarou 7

Victoria built an early cushion and held off a late Baton Rouge rally to claim a 9-7 victory.

The Generals wasted little time, scoring three runs in the first before adding two more in the second and three in the third to build an 8-3 advantage. Asa Sampson and Roman Cariaga each launched home runs, while Lucas Wilson drove in three runs to pace the offense.

Baton Rouge refused to go away. Trip Dobson continued his hot stretch with two hits, including a triple, while Hayes Hebert collected two RBIs. The Rougarou scored twice in the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate before Trent Buckley recorded the final outs to secure the win.

Victoria finished with 11 hits, led by Josh Arquette's three-hit performance and Wilson's three RBIs.

Sherman Shadowcats 10, Acadiana Cane Cutters 7

The Sherman Shadowcats erupted for four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie and defeat the Acadiana Cane Cutters 10-7.

Acadiana carried a 6-4 lead into the sixth behind Isaiah Castaneda, who homered and drove in two runs, while Hayden Leblue added two hits and two RBIs.

Sherman slowly chipped away before delivering the decisive rally in the eighth. Zach Fjelstad drove in two runs and finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Cole Carnes also knocked in two. John Moya scored twice and added an RBI as the Shadowcats capitalized on several free baserunners to seize control.

Kaden Puls earned the win with three solid innings of relief, and Edwin Nunez closed out the ninth for his first save of the season.

Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators 7, Brazos Valley Bombers 3

The Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators continued their strong start to the season by defeating the Brazos Valley Bombers 7-3.

The Gators jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before Brazos Valley answered with single runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. Lake Charles responded with a three-run fifth and added two insurance runs in the sixth to pull away.

Andrew Ramos led the offensive attack with two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs. Ayden Sunday collected two hits and an RBI, while Bankston Lembcke reached base three times and scored twice.

Daniel Midkiff earned the victory after working six innings, allowing three runs while striking out three. Taylor Hollier and Pierce Boles combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to finish off the Bombers.

With the holiday slate complete, teams now turn their attention to the second half of the weekend as the race for positioning in the Texas Collegiate League standings continues to heat up.
