Gumbeaux Gators 3, Cane Cutters 1
Lake Charles continued its impressive postseason run by defeating No. 2 seed Acadiana 3-1, completing a two-game sweep of the semifinal series.
The Gators managed just two hits on the evening but capitalized on their opportunities in a decisive three-run fourth inning. Lane Sparks and Jaxon Landreneau each reached before Gabe Guidry delivered the biggest hit of the game, driving in two runs. Yuichiro Kumagami added an RBI to give Lake Charles all the offense it would need.
The story of the night, however, was the Gators' pitching staff.
Starter Diego Corrales was dominant, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out four. Acadiana finally broke through in the eighth inning on Gage Hinnant's RBI single, but Cannon Faulk limited the damage before Hunter Degeyter closed out the final five outs to secure the victory.
Despite collecting five hits, the Cane Cutters could never generate sustained offense against the Lake Charles pitching staff. Ethan Espricueta led Acadiana with two hits, while Logan Mallard and Abel Thetford each added base hits in the losing effort.
Lake Charles struck out 11 times at the plate but made the most of seven walks to secure its place in the TCL Championship Game.
Bombers 5, Generals 0
With their season on the line, the Brazos Valley Bombers delivered a dominant performance Wednesday night, blanking top-seeded Victoria 5-0 to even the best-of-three semifinal series at one game apiece.
The Bombers jumped on the board in the first inning before adding two more runs in the second to build an early 3-0 advantage. Kason Atkins paced the offense with two RBIs, while Gage Kooyers also drove in a pair. Tiger Donnato continued his strong postseason, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a stolen base.
Brazos Valley's pitching staff was outstanding from start to finish. Ryler Smart tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while working around five walks. Travis Minard took over in relief and closed the door with four scoreless innings, surrendering only one hit while striking out four to earn the win.
Victoria managed just three hits on the night, with Lucas Wilson, Roman Cariaga, and Isaac Yruretogoyena accounting for the Generals' offense. Despite drawing six walks, the top seed was unable to break through against the Bombers' pitching staff.
With the victory, Brazos Valley evens the semifinal series at one game each, setting up a winner-take-all Game 3 with a berth in the Texas Collegiate League Championship Game on the line.
