Walk-Off Drama, Dominant Pitching, and River Monsters Stay Hot
The Texas Collegiate League delivered another action-packed night Thursday as Lake Charles walked off Sherman in dramatic fashion, Victoria completed another shutout behind an overpowering pitching staff, San Antonio continued its winning ways, and Acadiana edged Brazos Valley in a tightly contested battle.
Gumbeaux Gators Walk It Off Against Sherman, 8-7
Lake Charles capped off one of the night's most exciting finishes, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to edge Sherman 8-7.
Jackson Beddoe sparked the Gumbeaux offense by going 2-for-5 with three runs scored and a triple, while Landon Hennan delivered a key two-run double. Lane Sparks and Gavin Gary each added RBI hits as Lake Charles made the most of just seven hits.
Sherman battled back throughout the evening, collecting 10 hits behind Tyler Sessions' 3-for-5 performance with an RBI and Zach Fjelstad's two doubles and three RBIs. Jarrett Halter added two hits and an RBI, while Cole Carnes doubled and drove in another run.
After Sherman tied the game with two runs in the ninth, the Gumbeaux Gators answered immediately in the bottom half, pushing across the winning run for the walk-off victory.
Reed Dupre earned the win with three solid innings of relief, allowing two runs while striking out two.
Victoria Blanks Abilene Behind 14 Strikeouts
Victoria's pitching staff continued its dominant stretch, shutting out the Abilene Flying Bison 5-0 while striking out 14 batters.
Starter Alex Renfrow tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five to earn the victory. Ryan Dugas added four strikeouts over two scoreless innings before Clark Scallon slammed the door with five strikeouts in the final two innings.
Lucas Wilson paced the Generals offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Brock DeYoung drove in two runs with a clutch double, while Beck Zimmerman and Juan Cantua each collected RBIs.
Cole Neatherlin accounted for half of Abilene's four hits with a 2-for-4 night, but the Flying Bison were unable to capitalize against Victoria's dominant pitching.
Acadiana Holds Off Brazos Valley, 4-3
The Acadiana Cane Cutters survived a pitchers' duel and a late Bombers push to earn a 4-3 road victory over Brazos Valley.
McCann Libby led the Cane Cutters with three hits, while Ethan Espricueta drove in a run and Logan Mallard and Landon Hawkins each added RBIs. Acadiana showed tremendous patience at the plate, drawing 12 walks to keep pressure on the Bombers throughout the game.
Jackson Hawsey picked up the win after allowing just one unearned run over three innings, while Ryan Self struck out five in two scoreless frames. Jack Halbrook closed the door with four strikeouts over the final two innings to earn his fourth save.
Brazos Valley received RBIs from Tyson Brooks and Jax Marshall, who drove in two runs, but stranded 10 runners despite five hits.
Both pitching staffs combined for an impressive 28 strikeouts in the contest.
River Monsters Continue Surge with 8-3 Win
San Antonio stayed red-hot with an 8-3 victory over Baton Rouge behind another balanced offensive attack.
Hunter Ham blasted a two-run home run, while Roman Trinidad finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sammy Morales added two hits and an RBI, Jake Pineda delivered a two-run pinch-hit single, and Luke Flores-King chipped in an RBI as the River Monsters totaled 11 hits.
Starter Wyatt Wilkinson worked six strong innings, allowing two runs while striking out five before Brian Buchanan closed out the final three innings with four strikeouts to earn the save.
Baton Rouge collected 10 hits, led by Dathan Cummings' three-hit performance and Jacob Keys' two-hit, RBI night, but could not overcome San Antonio's explosive middle innings.
