Shadowcats Walk It Off, Rougarou Hold Off Cane Cutters, Generals Bounce Back in Style
Another exciting night in the Texas Collegiate League featured two high-scoring thrillers, a dramatic walk-off finish in Sherman, and a dominant pitching performance from the Victoria Generals.
Sherman Shadowcats 11, Abilene Flying Bison 10
The Sherman Shadowcats erased a late deficit with a stunning five-run ninth inning to walk off the Abilene Flying Bison, 11-10, in one of the most exciting finishes of the season.
Abilene appeared to be in control after scoring three runs in the eighth and another in the ninth to build a 10-6 advantage. Sherman had other ideas.
The Shadowcats collected four hits in the bottom of the ninth and capitalized on timely at-bats to complete the comeback. Tyler Sessions finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, while Ryan Sessions added two hits and two RBIs. Camden Babcock chipped in two hits and drove in two runs, and Cole Carnes contributed two hits and an RBI.
Brody Mahan earned the victory after Sherman pieced together the comeback despite issuing 13 walks on the mound.
Abilene's offense was led by Myles Mayse, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Trey Smith also drove in three runs, while Ryan Lewis collected two RBIs in the losing effort.
Baton Rouge Rougarou 8, Acadiana Cane Cutters 6
The Baton Rouge Rougarou secured their second straight win over Acadiana, using a pair of multi-run innings to hold off a late Cane Cutters rally.
Baton Rouge broke a scoreless game open with four runs in the fourth before adding three more in the sixth. Acadiana battled back with four runs in the eighth, but Carson Robb shut the door in the ninth for his third save of the season.
Jack Marcantel led the Rougarou offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Jacob Keys finished with two doubles and two RBIs. Taylor Walters added a pair of hits and drove in two runs as Baton Rouge improved to .500.
Josh Jensen picked up the win in relief, while Robb struck out three in a perfect ninth inning.
Acadiana showed tremendous patience at the plate, drawing an incredible 17 walks, but managed just six hits. Will Thetford drove in two runs, and Isaiah Castaneda collected two hits and an RBI in the loss.
Victoria Generals 11, San Antonio River Monsters 2
One night after dropping a high-scoring contest to the River Monsters, the Victoria Generals responded with a convincing 11-2 victory.
Victoria scored four runs in the second inning before breaking the game open with another four-run fifth. Despite recording only five hits, the Generals capitalized on seven walks, defensive miscues, and timely hitting to cruise to the win.
Isaac Yruretogoyena led the offense with four RBIs, while Caden Callaway finished with three hits and two RBIs. Roman Cariaga and Keegan Demmer each added two RBIs.
Jaykub Reyes earned the win with six strong innings, allowing just two runs while striking out three. The Victoria bullpen combined to allow no hits over the final three innings while striking out six.
San Antonio's lone offensive highlight came on Bruno Robles' two-run home run in the sixth inning.
