Bombers Outlast Generals in Slugfest, Cane Cutters Toss One-Hitter as Flying Bison Stay Hot
The Texas Collegiate League delivered another exciting night of baseball on Saturday, July 11, featuring dominant pitching, timely hitting, and one of the wildest offensive shootouts of the season.
Acadiana 7, Baton Rouge 0
The Acadiana Cane Cutters turned in their most complete performance of the season, blanking the Baton Rouge Rougarou 7-0 behind a dominant one-hit pitching effort.
Starter Gavin Baillargeon set the tone with four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six. The bullpen never let Baton Rouge gain any momentum as Kannon Dempsey, Michael Salazar-Sanchez, and J.B. Landrum combined for five hitless innings with eight strikeouts to finish off the one-hit shutout. In all, the Cane Cutters' staff struck out 14 Rougarou hitters.
Acadiana's offense capitalized on 11 walks and delivered timely hits throughout the night. Grant Haas finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI, and two stolen bases, while Aidan Eshelman drove in two runs after reaching base four times. Logan Mallard added two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Isaiah Castaneda also knocked in a pair.
Baton Rouge managed just one hit—a single by Jacob Keys—as Acadiana snapped its losing skid in convincing fashion.
Abilene 7, Sherman 5
The Abilene Flying Bison continued their strong play by using a five-run fifth inning to rally past the Sherman Shadowcats 7-5.
Trailing 2-1 entering the fifth, the Flying Bison erupted for five runs on six hits to seize control. Christian Gutierrez paced the offense with three hits, two doubles, and two RBIs, while Collin Bruning tripled home two runs. Rodrigo Bravo collected two hits and an RBI, and Braden Regala contributed two hits and drove in another run.
Sherman stayed within striking distance thanks to Cole Carnes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Tyler Sessions added two hits and an RBI, while Ellington Jefferson scored three runs and stole three bases.
After starter Cody Demont exited, Grayson Lincecum earned the win with two solid innings of relief before Tyler Chapman closed the door for his first save of the season.
Brazos Valley 14, Victoria 13
Fans in Brazos Valley witnessed an offensive explosion as the Bombers survived a furious Victoria comeback to edge the Generals 14-13 in the highest-scoring game of the night.
The Bombers built an early 8-3 lead after a six-run second inning before stretching the advantage to 14-7 through six innings. Victoria refused to go away, scoring five runs in the seventh and adding another in the eighth to make it a one-run game.
Brazos Valley's balanced attack featured Tiger Donnato, who collected three hits and an RBI, while Tanner Cooper finished with two hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Eddie Castillo also knocked in three runs, Blaine Lucas added three RBIs, and Tobias Motley contributed an RBI as the Bombers scored 14 runs despite recording just 10 hits.
Victoria nearly completed the comeback behind a strong offensive performance from Isaac Yruretogoyena, who drove in three runs, while Keegan Demmer launched a three-run homer. Roman Cariaga, Davidenko Rodriguez, and Josh Arquette also played key roles in the 12-hit attack.
After allowing six runs in relief, Braden Cox settled down over the final 2.2 innings to earn the save and preserve another Bombers victory.
