Late-Inning Fireworks Highlight Saturday Night Across the Texas Collegiate League

Saturday night's action in the Texas Collegiate League featured dramatic finishes, high-scoring affairs and another walk-off victory, as Acadiana, Lake Charles, San Antonio and Sherman all came away with wins in an entertaining slate of games.

Sherman Shadowcats 6, Baton Rouge Rougarou 4 (10 innings)

The Sherman Shadowcats needed extra innings, but they made the most of their opportunity, scoring twice in the top of the 10th to defeat the Baton Rouge Rougarou 6-4.

After Baton Rouge tied the game with two runs in the sixth inning, both pitching staffs traded scoreless frames until Sherman broke through in the 10th. Zach Fjelstad continued his hot stretch, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Ryan Sessions added a pair of doubles and drove in two runs, while John Moya collected two hits and scored twice.

Baton Rouge was led by Dathan Cummings, who went 3-for-5 with a triple and a run scored. Jesse Lord homered, and Trip Dobson added a two-run double.

Edwin Nunez earned the victory with 1.2 scoreless innings, while Kaden Puls kept the Rougarou off the board over 3.1 innings of relief. Jimmie Johnson suffered the loss after allowing the deciding runs in the 10th.

Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators 11, Brazos Valley Bombers 8

The Lake Charles Gumbeaux Gators used a powerful offensive attack to outlast the Brazos Valley Bombers 11-8.

Lake Charles jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Brazos Valley answered with a four-run fourth inning to briefly tie the game. The Gators responded immediately with four runs of their own and added three insurance runs in the eighth.

Ayden Sunday starred with a 3-for-3 performance that included a home run, double, four runs scored and an RBI. Matthew Scott also homered while going 4-for-5 with three RBIs, and Bankston Lembcke drove in three more with two hits.

The Bombers received a two-RBI effort from Tiger Donnato, while Jacob Bohacek added two RBIs and Derek Martinez collected two hits.

Reed Dupre picked up the win in relief, and Davis Duhon closed the door for his first save of the season.

Acadiana Cane Cutters 5, Victoria Generals 4

For the second straight night, the Acadiana Cane Cutters found late-game magic, walking off the Victoria Generals with a run in the bottom of the ninth for a 5-4 victory.

Victoria built leads throughout the evening, but Acadiana kept answering before finally completing the comeback in its final at-bat.

Grant Haas led the Cane Cutters with a perfect 4-for-4 performance while reaching base five times. McCann Libby and Isaiah Castaneda each drove in runs, and Ethan Espricueta added a key hit.

Victoria managed just five hits but stayed in front for much of the contest behind RBIs from Davidenko Rodriguez and Isaac Yruretogoyena.

Gage Hinnant closed out the final 2.1 innings on the mound to earn the victory after also contributing offensively earlier in the game.

San Antonio River Monsters 10, Abilene Flying Bison 9

The San Antonio River Monsters erased a late deficit with a four-run eighth inning before holding off Abilene for a thrilling 10-9 victory.

Abilene appeared in control after scoring five runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead, but the River Monsters answered with one run in the seventh before exploding for four more in the eighth. San Antonio added two insurance runs in the ninth that proved crucial as the Flying Bison rallied one final time.

Jake Pineda paced San Antonio by going 3-for-4 with a double, while David DeHoyos launched a three-run homer. Roman Trinidad drove in three runs, Bruno Robles collected two hits and Sammy Morales scored twice while reaching base four times.

Abilene received a two-home run performance from Manny Salas, who finished with two RBIs. Tristan Russell added two hits, while Christian Gutierrez, Rodrigo Bravo, Hayden Ramage and Ryan Lewis each drove in runs.

Jake Ramirez earned the win in relief despite Abilene's late rally, helping San Antonio secure another high-scoring road victory.
