OUTLAWS SHUTOUT BOMBERS, MARSHALS EDGE LONESTARS

Despite an 11 strikeout performance by Bombers pitcher Casey Whitmer, Brazos Valley goes down as the Outlaws pull off a big win.

DENTON 4, BRAZOS VALLEY 0
The Brazos Valley Bombers drew their best start of the year from pitcher Casey Whitmer Wednesday night, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the visiting Denton Outlaws as the Bombers fell, 4-0.  Whitmer pitched six stellar innings, surrendering five hits and no runs while striking out 11.  But he was locked in a pitching duel with Outlaws starter Steven Maxwell, who went five scoreless innings, giving up three hits and striking out seven.  Scooter Hicks relieved Whitmer to open the seventh inning and immediately ran into trouble. The Outlaws put the leadoff batter on by way of a Joseph Towns error, then scored the first run of the game when Hicks threw away a bunt single.  Denton then played small ball, sacrificing the runner to second, stealing third, then bringing him home with a bunt single. The Outlaws put the game out of reach in the top if the ninth when Tyler Warmerdam drove an Adam Albright offering over the left field fence for a two-run homer.  Even though the Bombers struggled at the plate for the first half of the game, they were not without their chances.  Brazos Valley loaded the bases with one out in the fifth inning, but both Kyle Sisney and TJ Mittelstaedt struck out to end the threat.  The Bombers put a pair of runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings as well, then had a runner in scoring position with one out in the eighth, but they failed to push a run across the plate.

MCKINNEY 6, COLLEYVILLE 5
The game between the McKinney Marshals and the Colleyville LoneStars was a closely contested game to the end. The scoring started in the 4th as Colleyville got up 2-0 with a Scott Lawson two run double. McKinney came back in the bottom of the inning as Dustin Hood and Trent Diedrich both has RBI singles. Both teams got a run in the 6th, McKinney’s coming courtesy of Tyler Hohman’s first home run of the season. McKinney took their first lead of the game in the 7th with a RBI by Bryan Holaday. Colleyville then took the lead again by scoring two in the 8th with a RBI by Brandon Moss and Tyler Weber. As expected in this game McKinney tied it up in the bottom of the 8th with a two out RBI single by Michael Rockett. The game winning hit came by Holaday with a game winning triple to end the night 2-5 and 2 RBI’s the win goes to Chris Wright (1-0) and the loss goes to Iain Sebastian (0-2).
