Wade Mackey (Mineral Wells Steam '06) was chosen as Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for games of April 30-May 7, the conference announced.
Mackey tossed Baylor’s first complete-game shutout in more than one calendar year with a 3-0 win at No. 23 TCU. His shutout was Baylor’s first complete-game against a ranked opponent since Mark McCormick accomplished the feat March 20, 2004, against then-No. 9
Texas A&M. Prior to this outing, his previous career long was five innings on three occasions. The Van,
Texas native retired 13 consecutive batters between the third and seventh innings and 20 of the final 21 batters faced. He recorded five strikeouts and both hits allowed were to the same batter, a one-out second-inning single and a two-out seventh-inning bunt single.
Mackey currently leads the Bears with a minuscule 1.83 ERA with a 3-1 record and 29 strikeouts in 11 appearances.
During the 2006 summer with the Mineral Wells Steam, Mackey finished 4-5 with a 2.56 ERA, 59 strikeouts and was named to the TCL All-star team. Mackey will suit up again for the Steam in the 2007 season.
