Texas Marshals Looking to Make Strides

The Texas Marshals are less than a week from baseball and the team is excited for the opportunity to improve on last year’s finish after being eliminated from TCL playoffs in the last week of the season last summer. The Marshals are going to be led this year by returning head coach Jason Smiga who comes to the Marshals from Richardson High School where he serves as varsity assistant coach.

The team will be looking for some big performances out of all of their recruits in hopes of joining the championship hunt. A few of the players the Marshals will be relying on include pitcher Keaton Brewer and outfielders Jake Perez and Nolan Ramsey.

Keaton Brewer, a redshirt junior from the University of New Orleans, is a right handed pitcher who appeared for the Marshals the last two summers when he led the team in ERA. This past season for New Orleans Brewer has appeared in 24 games as a reliever while recording a 3-1 record with 29 strikeouts. Hopefully Brewer can continue his summer success with the Marshals.

Outfielder Jake Perez is a junior from Southeastern Oklahoma State. In this past year Perez has only appeared in 13 games while still registering a home run, 3 RBIs and 7 runs scored. Perez is looking for some success this summer while roaming the outfield for the Marshals.

Alabama A&M product Nolan Ramsey is a freshman outfielder who has had an outstanding first collegiate season. Ramsey has appeared in 50 games for Alabama A&M while recording a .314 average, 26 RBIs, 3 home runs and 34 runs scored. The upcoming summer is Ramsey’s first in the TCL and the team has high hopes that he can contribute to the pursuit of a playoff spot.

Everyone will have to contribute on the field for the Marshals to contend and these are just a few of the players that will have to give big performances for the season if that goal is to be achieved. The Marshals open up their season May 27th against the Generals in Victoria before coming home on May 29th for the opener, also against the Generals.
