Bombers Retain Three Outfielders from 2015 Championship Squad

Hollas, Valdez and Whitehead Return For Bombers’ Pursuit of Four-Peat

Bryan-College Station, TX (February 25, 2016) - The three-time defending champions of the TCL are proud to announce the return of three outfielders for the upcoming 2016 campaign. The University of Oklahoma’s Ben Hollas, Incarnate Word’s Mark Whitehead, and Northwestern State’s Matt Valdez will look to help bring an unprecedented fourth-consecutive TCL title to the Brazos Valley.

The versatility and speed of Sophomore Ben Hollas is incontrovertible.  Hollas appeared in all but one game last season while holding a .272 batting average and adding 37 hits, 27 RBIs and 29 runs. Hollas also finished second on the team with 15 stolen bases. A special congratulations to Hollas who after playing at Hill Community College for one year will now play with the ranks of Div. I athletes at the University of Oklahoma.

The 2016 season will mark as Matt Valdez’s third consecutive season with the Bombers. Valdez, who vastly improved during his second stint with the Bombers, appeared in 40 games last season (compared to 2 in 2014) with a batting average of .291 (.143 in 2014) while chipping in 29 runs and 18 RBIs, both good for fifth on the team in 2015. The insatiable nature of Valdez is only to become more apparent in the upcoming season.

Although somewhat limited in action during the 2015 season, Mark Whitehead made the most of his time on the field. Whitehead, while appearing in 23 games, contributed 17 hits, 11 runs and 6 RBIs with a batting average of .250. Whitehead hopes to build upon a solid 2015 foundation and hopes to become a focal point of the 2016 squad.

All three outfielders seek to further improve upon last season while fielding a stifling defense which continues to be an integral asset for a Bombers squad that as a team went 45-9 during the 2015 campaign.

The Bombers are set to take the field on May 27th to begin their “Road to Four” at home against the Acadiana Cane Cutters.

Affordable family fun returns to Cellucor Field as the Bombers decade season begins May 27th.
