Generals Win 5th Straight, Move Back into First Place

Trailing 3-2 in the game, the Victoria Generals scratched out two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the lead and win the ballgame over the Texas Tomcats on Saturday night by a final score of 4-3.  The Generals offense was stifled by Texas Tomcat's starting pitcher Casey Grayson all night long as he pitched seven innings, only allowing two unearned runs on four hits while striking out nine.  Luckily for the Generals, Grayson had exceed the 100 pitch count rule that the TCL has in place and was not able to come back out to pitch the eighth inning.  Instead, the Generals got to face Tomcat's relief pitcher Justin Thomas and were able to score two runs to come back for the win.  Thomas walked Lawton Langford to lead off the inning before allowing back-to-back hits by Mark Hudson and Andrew Russell.  Conner Mach then walked to score Langford, and Brian Nephew delivered a big single to left field to drive home Hudson for the go-ahead run.  The Generals improved their winning streak to five games as they retook the lead in the overall TCL standings thanks in part to the Brazos Valley Bombers loss to the East Texas Pump Jacks on Saturday night.  The Generals improved to 25-13 overall and are now a half-game ahead of the Bombers in the standings.  The Tomcats fell to 19-21.  The Generals will travel to Bryan on Sunday and Monday nights to take on the Bombers in a pivotal two-game road series.  The Generals will return home on Tuesday night to host the East Texas Pump Jacks on Free Ticket Tuesday sponsored by Ozarka.  All fans who present an Ozarka water bottle at the gate will get in free.
