Bombers Take Over First Place!

Coppell, TX (June 21, 2010) – The Brazos Valley Bombers continued their run of excellent play, riding a 4-1 victory to the top spot in the Texas Collegiate League standings. Michael Hilliard earned his third win of the season, working seven inning of one run baseball.

The Copperheads got on the board first, scoring one in the bottom of the second to grab the early 0-1 lead. The Bombers didn’t waste any time, responding with four in the top of the third to grab the lead. Cameron Dullnig, John Cannon, and Cory Stooksbury loaded the bases to start the inning. Dullnig and Cannon scored on a Greg Olson single before Rodarrick Jones and Wes Patterson drew bases loaded walks to make the score 4-1.

Hilliard took advantage of the lead, shutting down the Copperheads for the next three innings. Alec Mills came in and picked up right where Hilliard left off, giving up one run through two innings of work. Then Matt Passauer earned his first save of the season, drawing a first pitch pop-out, then after giving up a single, got an unconventional double play as Wes Patterson caught a line drive for the second out and doubled off the runner at first to end the game.

The Bombers move into first place in the Texas Collegiate League standings with the win, moving their record to 10-6. The Bombers will look to augment their league lead on Wednesday when they take on the Texas TomCats on Little League night.
