BARFIELD, OJALA PRESENTED AWARDS FOR WEEK 7

By:

The Texas Collegiate League has announced Duncanville outfielder Jeremy Barfield (San Jacinto JC) as the D-Bat Player of the Week and Denton pitcher Mike Ojala (Rice) as D-Bat Pitcher of the Week for the games during July 16 - July 22.

Ever since Barfield (6-5, 230, Fr.) entered the TCL in early July, he has been a force to be reckoned with in the Deputies lineup.  The prospect out of Spring, TX continued his hot streak this week by hitting .391 (9-for-23) with six RBI.  The big outfielder shined against the Roughnecks leading Duncanville to a 10-1 victory by going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

At San Jacinto Junior College last spring, Barfield hit .316 with nine doubles, 36 RBI and three home runs.  In 2006 out of Klein High School , he was chosen in the ninth round of the MLB draft by the New York Mets.  Barfield comes from a wonderful gene pool of baseball talent.  His father, Jesse, played 12 major league seasons with Toronto and the
New York Yankees and brother Josh currently plays for the Cleveland Indians.

Ojala (6-2, 185, Fr.) had two tremendous outings last week tallying two wins for the Outlaws.  In two starts, the Rice University product pitched 12 innings only giving up six hits, no earned runs and struck out 16.  He silenced the Bombers bats on Sunday striking out 10 and allowing only two hits.  For the season, Ojala is 3-2 with a 4.84 ERA and 33 strikeouts.

In nine appearances as a true freshman at Rice, Ojala went 2-0 with nine strikeouts and a 4.38 ERA.  The Kingwood, TX native also helped lead his high school team to victory at the 2005 5A state championship.
