Local former Major Leaguer Luke Montz will lead the Acadiana Cane Cutters for their 2017 season

Former Acadiana High School Wrecking Ram, Luke Montz will lead the Acadiana Cane Cutters for the 2017 season in the Texas Collegiate League (TCL) as they try to improve on their second place  finish in the 2016 season.  Montz, drafted in the 17th round in the 2003 amateur draft, played with the Montreal Expos, New York Mets, Florida Marlins, Oakland Athletics and finished his professional career with the Boston Red Sox in 2015.

“It is so exciting to get a local guy with the experience Luke has to lead our team into the 2017 TCL season.  It makes it easy to recruit college players when they know that they will play this summer for a guy like Luke,” commented Richard Chalmers, president of the Cane Cutters.  The Cane Cutters have built a strong network within the college coaching ranks and have a reputation of taking care of their players, which is important as college coaches look to place their players for the summer.

The Cane Cutters finished the 2016 season with a record of 33-24.  After losing in the finals to the Brazos Valley Bombers for the second straight season, they look to continue their winning ways as they head into their seventh season.

The TCL schedule is set to be released in late November.  Follow the Cane Cutters www.canecuttersbaseball.comand call (337)451-6582 to get your season tickets as they prepare for their 56 game 2017 season.
